2. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Dr. Shyanika Rose, Assistant Professor of Behavioral Science in the College of Medicine and the Center for Health Equity Transformation at the University of Kentucky (UK) seeks a postdoctoral scholar to join the UK Appalachian Tobacco Regulatory Science Team (AppalTRuST). The overarching goal of the AppalTRuST Center is to examine tobacco use patterns and the potential impacts of FDA regulations on reducing geographic disparities in tobacco use in Appalachian Kentucky. The specific study led by Dr. Rose focuses on the prevalence and impact of marketing and novel tobacco product use in Appalachian Kentucky, and how FDA regulations may affect patterns of use for conventional and new products among young adults across levels of rurality. Data will be collected via retail store and digital audits of tobacco retailers, online surveys and ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to assess marketing exposure to conventional and new tobacco products in young adults.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The Department of Plant and Soil Sciences in the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment seeks to fill a key postdoctoral position in the NIH-funded community-engaged research supporting existing and on-going research on drinking water disinfection byproducts in the Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology at the University of Kentucky. Disinfection byproducts, which are toxic chemicals formed during chlorination of drinking water, are among the most ubiquitous contaminants of drinking water in the United States and worldwide.
They are the primary source of Safe Drinking Water Act Maximum Contaminant Level Violations in the U.S. Responsibilities include: conducting research using both traditional and community-based participatory methods on the factors governing formation of and exposure to disinfection byproducts in rural drinking water systems as part of an NIEHS-funded research to action project. The selected candidate will be enriched by participating in collaborations as part of UK’s NIEHS-funded Environmental Health Sciences Core Center, UK-Cares, as well as the University of Kentucky Water Research Institute.

5. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The Weisrock Lab research program comprises a broad range of interests, with no one major research focus, or taxonomic system. Generally, we use DNA sequence data to study patterns of genetic variation within and between species, and we use these data to learn more about the histories and processes that have shaped these patterns. This includes very fine-scale studies of variation within species to learn, for example, how changing environments or human-mediated factors are influencing populations, to the comparison of genomic data from divergent species separated by millions of years to reconstruct phylogenetic relationships and learn something about species diversification.

6. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The project focuses on electron transferring flavoproteins that mediate electron bifurcation, a recently described mode of energy conservation. We seek to understand how the protein’s interactions with its bound flavins cause them to conduct very different, complementary reactivities. The system also employs a large conformational change to gate electron transfer, which we wish to elucidate. Our long-term goal is to advance new materials for solar energy capture and storage.
