Summary of PhD Program:

A position as a PhD Research Fellow is available at the Centre for Space Sensors and Systems (CENSSS) at the Department of Technology Systems (ITS). CENSSS is a Centre for Research-based Innovation (SFI), funded by the Research Council of Norway (RCN) and UiO for up to eight years, starting in November 2020. CENSSS has three research partners and nine user partners. CENSSS is located at Kjeller, Norway, where there is a long history of space science and technology dating back to the 1960s.

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Particle Detectors

Summary of PhD Program:

The position is part of the project Microfabrication of finely segmented Silicon sensors with charge multiplication for next generation LIGHt sources and particle Trackers (Si-LIGHT), funded by the Research Council of Norway. The main objective of the project is fabrication of silicon sensors with charge multiplication for next generation X-ray sources and particle trackers using the concept of low gain avalanche diode (LGAD). LGAD will enable the ultra-high spatial resolution soft X-ray imaging that is foreseen for the future X-ray Free Electron Lasers (XFEL), synchrotrons and particle accelerators.

We currently have strong research communities in the fields of urban studies, sustainable transformations, work, organisations and politics, social inequality, migration, integration and diversity, cultural and political participation, population dynamics. Human geographers are also engaged in economic and political geography. The call is not thematically limited to these topics, but preference can be given to candidates with projects that align with the department’s supervisory capacity. 5. 02 Fully Funded PhD Position in Law

Summary of PhD Program:

The Faculty of Law at the University of Oslo is the largest legal academic research community in Norway. The objective of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree. The candidate must be qualified for admission to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Law. The fellowship period is preferably for 4 years, with 25 % compulsory teaching duties. This presupposes that the fellow is able to conduct teaching in subjects where there is a need for more teaching resources at the Faculty. Alternatively, the candidate may apply for a 3-year fellowship without teaching duties.

6. Fully Funded PhD Position in nineteenth-century Norwegian literature, especially drama and theater

Summary of PhD Program:

This PhD fellowship is part of the European Research Council-funded project “Norwegian Romantic Nationalisms” (NORN), led by professor Ellen Rees. NORN seeks to interrogate literary historical accounts of nineteenth-century Norwegian literature, and a main hypothesis is that Norwegian literary historiography is in itself a national romantic project. NORN investigates how literary historical categories and concepts (periods, genres, high and low culture, etc.) contribute to processes of inclusion and exclusion. NORN encompasses perspectives from cultural studies, affect theory, critical race studies, and reception studies and combines qualitative methods taken from literary studies and history with quantitative methods from the digital humanities.

Summary of PhD Program:

The PhD candidate will be associated with the interdisciplinary research group AI Democracy – How can Artificial Intelligence (AI) change political participation and democracy? (uio.no) The research group is funded by the initiative UIO:Democracy and will commence in the fall of 2024. We desire the PhD candidate to utilize knowledge, methods, and perspectives from social sciences and humanities to better understand how Artificial Intelligence (AI), especially generative AI and large AI models such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Midjourney, and Dalle, can influence and alter the foundations of political engagement and democratic participation. Applicants are requested to develop a project description related to the AI-Democracy theme, describing theory, research questions, and methodology.

The Department of Political Science is recruiting 1 – 3 PhD Research Fellows (SKO 1017).
