1. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The Delaware Center for Cognitive Aging Research (DECCAR) is seeking a psychometrist to administer cognitive tests and health questionnaires to adults who range from having normal cognitive abilities to dementia. The testing is a component of several grant-funded studies related to cognitive aging and risk of dementia from Alzheimer’s disease or related causes and will take place in person, by Zoom, and by telephone. The psychometrist will work under the supervision of Dr. Matthew Cohen, a clinical neuropsychologist, and in collaboration with research staff.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The Delaware gamma-ray group is a member of the VERITAS and CTAO projects, and has played a leading role in the technical and scientific development of these facilities. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with data and Monte Carlo simulations from both projects. They may also contribute to the development of the novel prototype Schwarzchild-Couder telescope. Scientific interests of the group are broad, and include the study of high energy emission from Galactic sources such as gamma-ray binary systems, supernova remnants and pulsar wind nebulae, and the search for counterparts to recently identified ultra-high energy gamma-ray sources.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The Gundlach group is developing and using femtosecond time-resolved spectroscopic and microscopic techniques to investigate excited state dynamics in hybrid and solid-state materials. Transport and transfer of energy are the most critical processes that determine the evolution of a system, and they are essential for a broad range of applications. In particular, the coupling between excitations is essential for the transfer or transduction and can occur on time scales as short as a few femtoseconds. The necessary experimental techniques to study these processes are developed, improved, and applied to a broad range of materials systems in our group.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Optical clocks are the most accurate instruments ever realized by humankind. They have great potential for fundamental physics discovery as quantum sensors, e.g. for low-frequency gravitational wave detection or for dark matter searches. However, thus far optical clocks have used the same basic modality since the first atomic clocks were realized: uniform state preparation and interrogation of a sample of atoms. In contrast the quantum information science (QIS) toolbox has fine-grained controls now available where single atoms in large arrays are individually controlled, interrogated, and even entangled with other atoms. We seek to leverage the many-fold technical QIS advances to develop new algorithms for optical clocks as sensors for new physics, in collaboration with other QuSeC-TAQS researches.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
This project, Digital Twins of Coastal Ecosystems, aims to investigate the effects of salinity changes caused by flooding and sea-level rise (SLR) on the chemical, biological, physical and engineering properties of coastal soils. The University of Delaware (UD) team will examine how these evolving soil properties affect biogeochemical processes and functioning of the soils, and the ecosystem services they provide. To support this work, we will develop advanced modeling capabilities to quantify and predict the responses of coastal ecosystems to disturbances caused by flooding and SLR. Ultimately, this effort will inform the development of strategies to mitigate the impacts of flooding and SLR on both natural coastal ecosystems and the built environment (e.g., facilities and installations).

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The U.S. National Institutes of Health-funded projects are focused on the design, development, and execution of computer simulations of system related to different replication stages of the HIV virus. Preference will be given to applications with expertise in 1) protein dynamics; 2) molecular dynamics simulations; and 3) high-performance computing environments. Prior programming experience is preferred but not required. The postdoctoral scientist will design, perform, and develop new scientific tools for the analysis of long-time and/or large-scale molecular dynamics simulations in collaboration with the PI.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The Center for Health Assessment Research and Translation (CHART) at the University of Delaware (udel.edu/chart) has an opening (start summer 2025) for a full-time research associate to assist our research faculty and scientists in carrying out grant-funded research projects. The Center aims to improve the quality of healthcare and quality of life for rehabilitation populations and individuals with traumatic injury by improving patient assessment tools and practices. In particular, our team of psychologists and psychometricians studies the science and practice of outcomes measurement. CHART is funded through grants from the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Defense, and private foundations.
