3. Postdoctoral Position in Hematology
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Our group is interested in discovering novel genetic and epigenetic regulations and deciphering their underlying molecular mechanisms in normal developmental processes (e.g., hematopoiesis) and tumorigenesis (e.g., leukemogenesis). We cover research areas with relevance to Hematology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology, with an emphasis on RNA epigenetics (mainly focusing on the N6 methyladenosine (m6A) modification) and DNA epigenetics (mainly focusing on the TET1/2/3-mediated DNA demethylation) associated basic and translational research.
Our research involves experiments with primary human cancer cells, cancer and stem cell transplantation models, mouse genetics, classic molecular, biochemistry and cell biology, functional genomics, signal transduction, and large-scale data analysis and computational biology.

4. Postdoctoral Position in Cell Biology and Quantitative Microscopy
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
An NIH-funded Postdoctoral Fellow Position is available to probe the mechanisms of alcohol use disorders. In the U.S., this brain disorder is estimated to occur in 15 million people. The resulting pattern of long-term alcohol use can lead to cancer and diabetes; it may limit the life span of an individual by more than 20 years. Unfortunately, the scarce therapies that exist for treating alcohol use disorders are marginally effective. One challenge in developing new treatments has been that alcohol does not bind to specific receptors.
Rather, it perturbs the dynamics of protein-lipid interactions in the plasma membrane. To identify potential new therapeutic approaches, our laboratory has been probing the disorder at the molecular level. Using single molecule localization microscopy in cultured cells and rat brain slices, our goal is to define the nano-organization of kappa opioid receptor, mu opioid receptor, and relevant components of the plasma membrane. We expect this molecular level data to open avenues towards new treatments for alcohol use disorders.

5. Postdoctoral Position in Biochemistry and Cell Biology
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
A Postdoctoral position is now available in the laboratory of Dr. Yilun Liu at the Department of Cancer Genetics and Epigenetics, Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope. Dr. Liu’s research topics include: Dissecting the molecular mechanism by which transcription-associated genomic instability and epigenetic deregulation contribute to developmental abnormalities and cancer.
Developing pharmaceutical mechanisms for cancer therapy by targeting enzymes important for preventing the formation of DNA breaks arose during accelerated cell growth such as in cancer cells as well as factors important for the BRCA2 and PARP-dependent repair pathways to keep these DNA breaks unrepaired.

6. Postdoctoral Position in Translational Medicine
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The Williams lab is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral student interested in working in translational medicine to treat cancer. The overarching goals of the group are to identify and address unmet clinical needs (e.g., on-target, off-tissue toxicities) by rapidly translating novel molecular designs to the clinic. Using an atoms-up approach, our group pioneered the concept and development of tumor-activated IO monoclonal antibodies, leading the formation of Xilio Therapeutics which has two products currently in phase 1/2 clinical trials.
We also discovered and subsequently developed a unique peptide-Fab interaction that allows us to rapidly functionalize monoclonal antibodies including antibody-drug conjugates, bispecifics including NK and T cell engagers, antibody-based imaging reagents, and switchable CAR T cells. Given these successes, we have broadly expanded our efforts including the discovery of novel antibodies, combining single cell techniques (enabled by the acquisition of a Berkeley Lights Beacon) with structural and computational biology efforts.
