3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Information Technology

Summary of PhD Program:

Wireless systems are omnipresent in our daily life, but it is far from perfect, especially for professional applications, where stable quality of service with bounded latency, guaranteed packet delivery rate is a must. Today, we still see Wi-Fi coverage is far from uniform, high variations of the Wi-Fi signal strength can be observed at different locations. Co-located Wi-Fi access points sharing the same spectrum compete against each other rather than collaborate to serve users. In this PhD position, you will research solutions to tackle these issues and improve wireless performance and efficiency together with the members of Software-Defined Radio team in IDLab.

4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Political Sciences

Summary of PhD Program:

The project is grounded in an interpretive social science research design, in which methods such as interviews, ethnographic fieldwork, and discourse analysis play a central role. The research aims to result in scientific publications and ultimately culminates in a doctoral dissertation. Your PhD will be embedded in an interdisciplinary and engaged research group that approaches sustainability issues from a critical social science perspective. Within CDO, you will be part of a vibrant line of research on Responsible Research and Innovation, with a focus on imagination, narrative, and societal reflection in science and technology.

9. Fully Funded PhD Position in Plants and Crops

Summary of PhD Program:

Tetranychus urticae, the two-spotted spider mite, is among the most harmful pest insects worldwide. Due to its exceptional ability to adapt to various crops and pesticides, this mite serves as an excellent model system for studying the genetic and molecular basis of adaptation. Recently, our research group developed a groundbreaking CRISPR/Cas9 method called SYNCAS (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ibmb.2023.104068), which enables efficient genetic modification of spider mites — a feat that was previously unattainable. This technological breakthrough marks the beginning of a new era in functional genetics of chelicerates.
