3. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
We are seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious postdoctoral fellow to join our lab at the University of Pennsylvania, focused on uncovering the immune functions of red blood cells. Our work bridges basic immunology, translational research, and critical illness, with the goal of redefining how we understand red cell biology in health and disease. Our current efforts center on understanding how red cell toll-like receptors (TLRs) regulate nucleic acid sensing and immune signaling during inflammatory states such as sepsis. We use a combination of genetically modified mouse models, in vivo models of sepsis, pneumonia, and sterile inflammation, as well as patient-derived samples.
Application Deadline: Open Until Filled
4. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Join the vibrant Center of Excellence in Environmental Toxicology (CEET) to study air pollution and cancer. Study the metabolic activation of nitroarenes in human lung cells. Nitroarenes are components of diesel exhaust emission which is a Group 1 human carcinogen and are metabolically activated to reactive intermediates that can modify proteins to form the nitrosoproteome, and form covalent and oxidative lesions in DNA that lead to mutation. Our published studies shown that aldo-keto reductases perform this activation by nitroreduction and in lung cells they are induced by the NRF2-KEAP-1 pathway. This pathway is thought to protect target cells from transformation but the reverse may be true in the context of diesel exhaust exposure.
