This position is for a postdoctoral scholar to support an NIH-funded community-engaged research project on drinking water disinfection byproducts in the Kentucky Water Research Institute. Disinfection byproducts, which are toxic chemicals formed during chlorination of drinking water, are among the most ubiquitous contaminants of drinking water in the United States and Globally. They are the primary source of Safe Drinking Water Act Maximum Contaminant Level Violations in the US. The successful applicant will conduct research using both traditional and community-based participatory methods on the factors governing formation of and exposure to disinfection byproducts in rural drinking water systems as part of an NIEHS-funded research to action project. The applicant will also be enriched by participating in collaborations as part of UKs NIEHS-funded Environmental Health Sciences Core Center, UK-CARES, as well as the University of Kentucky Water Research Institute.

The Food Connection @ UK (TFC) is recruiting for a postdoctoral scholar to conduct applied research on value chain coordination (VCC) in local and regional food systems. The successful candidate will conduct applied research at the national level to help create a scholarly community in VCC work, focused on documentation and synthesis of the current state of practicable VCC literature in partnership with the Journal of Agriculture, Food Systems and Community Development. The candidate will develop research-informed policy recommendations to guide integration of VCC work into the institutional fabric of local food systems in Kentucky.
