5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Natural Sciences, specialization in Physical Geography
Summary of PhD Program:
The two doctoral students will be part of a project that investigates the potential to improve temperature reconstructions in both the northern and southern hemispheres by using quantitative wood anatomy from tree rings. According to previous reconstructions based on natural archives such as ice cores, lake sediments and tree rings, the climate variations of the southern and northern hemispheres appear to differ considerably over the last few millennia. This is not in line with how climate models characterize the same time period, as they indicate that the climate histories are relatively similar, mainly synchronized by large volcanic eruptions and elevated levels of carbon dioxide.
Application Deadline: 30th of June 2025
6. Fully Funded PhD Position in Information Systems with Focus on the Impact of Generative AI on Organizational Dynamics and Work Environment
Summary of PhD Program:
The doctoral student placement will be located at the Division of Informatics and will be accepted for doctoral studies in the subject of Informatics. 7. Fully Funded PhD Position in Medical Science – Translational childhood cancer research
Summary of PhD Program:
Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) and RNA (ctRNA) is fragmented genetic material that continuously leak out from tumor cells into the blood plasma. As it harbors genetic alterations specific for the patient’s cancer cells, ctDNA and ctRNA can be quantified using targeted sequencing. The aim of this doctoral project is to test the hypothesis that personalized analysis of ctDNA in peripheral blood may be used as a marker for treatment response, and to evaluate longitudinal ctRNA analysis for investigation of resistance mechanisms during the treatment of children with malignant tumors.

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in plant ecophysiology
Summary of PhD Program:
The PhD project is in the field of plant ecophysiology. Its main aim is to quantify the among-species variation in stem respiration in a variety of temperate and boreal tree species. The key research goals include: Determining the magnitude and the underlying causes for the among-species variation in stem respiration in trees exposed to the same growing conditions, and Improving the understanding of climate change impacts on stem respiration on longer-time scales. The project will include field measurements in the arboretum of the Gothenburg Botanical Garden and laboratory-based measurements in the state-of-the-art phytotron facilities at the host department, which will be used to determine the effects of changing growing conditions, such as temperature and water availability, on stem respiration rates.
