The Postdoctoral Research Associate will serve as a member of the Seafood Economic Analysis and Marketing Research (SEAMaR) team at the Virginia Seafood AREC (VSAREC). The Postdoctoral Research Associate will assist in the development and compilation of datasets focused on the U.S. seafood sector (fisheries and aquaculture). The position will work with other members of the SEAMaR team and a national network of collaborators to develop new tools and analysis for U.S. aquaculture. Quantitative analysis will include key sectors of U.S. aquaculture (catfish, trout, oysters), in addition to emerging sectors, such as marine finfish.

Responsibilities include: to lead and coordinate the development, implementation, and maintenance of a computational infrastructure for genomics/metagenomics-based plant and animal pathogen identification. This infrastructure will consist of a computational pipeline, a database, web interface, and visualization tools to make results understandable to end users with no genomics background. The postdoctoral associate will collaborate closely with faculty and graduate students at Virginia Tech and collaborators at other institutions in computer science, bioinformatics, plant pathology, and veterinary medicine developing the computational infrastructure.

The Virginia Tech group lead by Prof. Mariani and Prof. Pitts is involved in the protoDUNE experiment at CERN, DUNE and SBND at Fermilab and on the e-Ar electron scattering experiment at Jefferson Lab. The group is involved in protoDUNE and SBND calibration and data analysis. In DUNE the group is involved in the slow control for the far detectors. The successful candidate will work on both the slow monitor development and on data analysis. The group is performing several measurements related to neutrino and electron scattering on argon.

We seek a Postdoctoral Fellow to with expertise in spatial ecology to help lead and coordinate efforts to examine contact and space-use patterns in mammal communities. The Hoyt and Langwig Labs are conducting a study to understand the ecological drivers of pathogen transmission in wildlife communities with an emphasis on animal movement patterns. The Fellow will be responsible for assisting with data collection, which involves GPS collar deployment and data collection, permitting and site coordination, help with animal care and use protocols, analysis of data, and leading of manuscripts.
