The Nolan lab is housed in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at NC State University (Raleigh, North Carolina). Dr. Nolan runs an active research program primarily focused on the intersection of neurobiology and cancer/radiation biology. Our long-term goal is to identify novel targets for improved clinical management of pain that results from cancer treatment. We are also interested in understanding how pain signaling can influence the progression of cancer. To accomplish these goals, we utilize a combination of in vitro (cell culture) and in vivo (rodent/mouse) models, as well as clinical trials in both veterinary and human cancer patients.

2. Postdoctoral Position 

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Assist in the design and execution of biomedical experiments and the interpretation of the data. Interact with faculty, staff and students in integrating all experimental results in progress reports and publications. 3. Postdoctoral Position 

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Position will focus on research related to community-based active living, health, parks, and nature – with a focus on dignity and thriving communities. A methodological emphasis will be placed on geospatial and/or computer vision analyses. Current projects are funded through the Trust for Public Land, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Soccer Foundation, and the World Playground Research Institute.

Duties and Responsibilities

Research: Work with Dr. Hipp and interdisciplinary collaborators to address the distribution of outdoor play, active travel, and sports opportunities, among additional topics.

4. Postdoctoral Position 

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A postdoctoral research position is available in the Valacchi’s Lab at Plants for Human Health Institute (NCSU, Research Campus, Kannapolis) for a highly motivated candidate to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the effects of oxidative stress challenges including pollution in skin tissues. Excellent skills in the domain of cell culture techniques, molecular biology, silencing technique, CRISPR gene editing, microscopy, keratinocytes and fibroblasts isolation from human and mouse tissues, and performing experiments on 3D tissue models are requested. The Postdoctoral researcher is expected to excel in areas of skin pathophysiology. The postdoc will contribute to redesigning thermophilic enzymes for carbon fixation in plants. The project utilizes structural techniques (crystallography and single-particle cryoEM), biochemical techniques (protein expression and purification, enzyme assays, mutagenesis) and computational studies (phylogenetics, Molecular Dynamics and the metainference approach to model enzyme dynamics in cryoEM) to identify mutations to reduce the temperature of activity of carbon-fixing enzymes.
