1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Secure Computation Technologies and Applications to Machine Learning

Summary of PhD Program:

Secure Computation Technologies, such as Multiparty Computation, allow the purposeful processing of private data (distilling value from such data), without compromising the privacy of this data. Today’s interconnected world, smart applications, and global business, necessitating the use of collaborative analytics, require the collection and processing of private information. In this PhD trajectory you will be exploring ways and developing protocols and primitives that enhance the security, functionality, and efficiency of secure computation technologies (e.g., multiparty computation – MPC), when designed for particular application scenarios, such as private machine learning use-cases.

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Enhancing urban drought resilience through soil biodiversity

Summary of PhD Program:

Recurring droughts severely impacted the Dutch built environment, causing financial, environmental, and social effects. Climate change and urban developments are expected to aggravate this. Although municipalities recognize drought as critical risk, few have prepared for it. This is due to a lack of understanding of the urban water balance under drought and the vulnerability of urban water use(r)s, especially with regards to the role of soil biodiversity in maintaining urban green spaces, and missing action-perspectives.

6. Fully Funded PhD Position in Houses and Hierarchies in Late Prehistoric Cyprus

Summary of PhD Program:

The ERC AdG project Inequal Cyprus projects investigates the consolidation of social inequalities – a so far poorly understood development of crucial importance in the rise of complex societies in West Asia. Recent archaeological research into social inequalities has either used quantitative methods, such as the GINI measure, to demonstrate the emergence of inequalities, or questioned the existence of inequalities in early complex societies, for example in work of Graeber and Wengrow, leaving the complex question of how social inequalities were first consolidated unresolved.

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in structural biology

Summary of PhD Program:

In this PhD project, the student will investigate the three-dimensional structure and molecular mechanism of PPE porins using biochemical, microbiological, and biophysical approaches, with an emphasis on cryo-electron microscopy. We aim to determine how PPE proteins mediate selective small-molecule transport and how structural insights into these outer membrane porins can guide drug development strategies to enhance compound uptake.
