The VanWallendael Lab at North Carolina State University seeks a postdoctoral researcher to study the genomic changes underlying rapid evolution in agricultural weeds. Our new lab has the twin goals of better understanding evolution by studying weeds and improving weed control using evolutionary knowledge. The postdoc will have the opportunity to focus on the evolution of weedy traits in crop-related weeds, as well as monitoring genomic changes in wild weed and invasive species populations. 3. Postdoctoral Position 

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The primary purpose of this Postdoctoral Research Scholar position will be to develop ocean modeling tools and analysis, including ocean data assimilation, to study coastal circulation dynamics, biophysical interactions, and air-sea interactions in the northwestern Atlantic ocean.

The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will be mentored by Dr. Ruoying He and will contribute towards several recently awarded projects in the field of coastal ocean observations and prediction, marine ecosystem variability, and ecological forecasting. Dr. He and the Postdoctoral Research Scholar will meet regularly to discuss research as well as other aspects of professional development including but not limited to teaching, mentorship, outreach, service, and career plans.

5. Postdoctoral Position 

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The purpose of this postdoc is to develop bacterial strains that can express milligram quantities of formate dehydrogenase and carbonic anhydrase for a collaborative project focusing on the immobilization of these gas-converting enzymes on surfaces for carbon dioxide remediation purposes. Additionally, the competitive candidate will be involved in work to metabolically engineer E. coli to convert the produced formate into value-added products.

6. Postdoctoral Position 

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The selected candidate will work under the direct guidance of Dr. Michael Nolan (radiation/cancer biologist and veterinary radiation oncologist). Significant mentorship will also be provided by key collaborators: Drs. Santosh Mishra (neurobiologist), and Duncan Lascelles (translational pain researcher and oncologic surgeon).

The scholar will work with other lab members to lead NIH-funded research projects, studying mechanisms of pain, and impacts of pain signaling on tumor progression. The projects involve benchtop cell culture experiments, studies using genetically engineered mouse models, behavioral testing, and potential involvement in co- clinical trials in both humans and animal (pet dogs/cats) with naturally occurring cancer.
