Are you holding Master’s degree and looking for fully funded PhD positions? Luleå University of Technology, Sweden invites online application for multiple funded PhD Programs / fully funded PhD positions in various research areas.
Candidates interested in fully funded PhD positions can check the details and may apply as soon as possible. Interested and eligible applicants may submit their online application for PhD programs via the University’s Online Application Portal.
1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Machine Learning
Summary of PhD Program:
As a doctoral student, you will be part of a project that aims to explore machine learning methods for document analysis. The documents will range from historical documents to modern blueprints and circuit diagrams, from machine printed to hand drawn. The project includes developing new techniques, and methods to combine or adapt existing techniques so new classes of historical documents can quickly be recognized. You will work with researchers at LTU and regional and national archives in Sweden. The machine learning group encourages national and international collaboration for the overall development of its researchers.
Application Deadline: August 30, 2024
2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Electronic Systems with focus on electromagnetic compatibility in electrified airport environment
Summary of PhD Program:
The environmental effect of flight on climate change has become a major driving force for the development of electric aircraft, where the focus currently is on safety, battery technology and development of drive systems. Today’s certified electric airplanes carry a maximum of two passengers for 100 kilometers, but development is progressing quickly. The Swedish company Heart Aerospace is developing a hybrid aircraft for 30 passengers to be in service by 2028, and at Skellefteå airport pilot training is being conducted with the electric aircraft Pipistrel Velis Electro. Associated charging infrastructure is expanded with charging stations, solar parks and energy storage. At Luleå University of Technology, our group is involved in driving the area forward via projects and collaborations with authorities and local actors.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence
Summary of PhD Program:
The vision of RAI is aiming in closing the gap from theory to real life, while the team has a strong expertise in field robotics. Specific application areas of focus are robotics for mines, aerial inspection of aging infrastructure, multi-robotic search and rescue, multi sensorial fusion and multirobot coordination, including multirobot perception, decentralization and mission execution. The RAI team has a strong European participation in multiple R&D&I projects, while RAI is also participating in the DARPA SUB-T challenge with the CoSTAR Team lead by NASA/JPL.
Application Deadline: 15 August 2024
4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS)
Summary of PhD Program:
The project aims to further digitalize the European industry, where EISLAB/CPS will be responsible for the CPS intelligence, IoT, and SoS automation architecture as well as the use of AI and Machine Learning (ML). Targeted results include academic papers and contributions with open-source code for the Eclipse Arrowhead. Projects typically involve working with both academic and industrial partners in Europe. Hence, collaboration with the software and automation industry is a key factor for the success of these projects. In this, you will work closely with other LTU researchers and doctoral students.

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Electronic Systems with focus on electrodynamic modeling
Summary of PhD Program:
We are now looking for a PhD student who, together with the support of our team of researchers, want to develop into a independent researcher in this field. We have several different project opportunities and orientations within electrodynamic calculations and these applications. Our background and academic excellence lies in integral equation based solutions, ex PEEC that is similar to the Method of moments, of electromagnetic problems.
We use established tools but perform the majority of the scientific work in own software based on Matlab or C++. We welcome the applicants to propose a suitable project or area that is of interest and that fits our described profile. Then the specific direction can be guided to some extent according to the applicant’s background and interests. As a doctoral student, you will have a close collaboration with researchers and staff at the university as well as with experts in electrodynamic simulation and modeling in Sweden and internationally. If there is interest, parts of your time as a doctoral student can be spent with one or more of our international collaboration partners.
Application Deadline: 2024-07-14
6. Fully Funded PhD Position in energy engineering – Energy system modeling to analyse the role of hydropower in the Swedish green energy transition
Summary of PhD Program:
The project is about exploring the conditions and opportunities for Swedish hydropower to contribute with additional flexibility to the power system. This is needed as the shares of wind and solar power are increasing in the Swedish and European power grids. The overarching aim of the project is to explore opportunities for the Swedish power system to meet the increasing electricity demand, which is needed to achieve the Swedish and global climate targets. Funding is received from the Swedish Energy Agency.
The role of the PhD candidate is first to develop a new power system module for the existing TIMES-Sweden model and then to apply the model to develop a portfolio of actions and policies that are key for the future fossil-free Swedish power system given foreseen increasing power demand.
