The Department of Mathematics, in conjunction with the Translational AI Center, at Iowa State University invites applications for two year postdoctoral position(s) with possible extension to a third year subject to availability of funding. The expected start date is August 16, 2024.

The TrAC Postdoctoral Fellowship Program provides a unique opportunity to Postdoctoral researchers working with TrAC affiliated faculty members at Iowa State in AI+X areas, i.e., interdisciplinary research that integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI) with other high-impact domain areas. The TrAC Postdoc fellows will have the opportunity to (i) collaborate broadly with TrAC researchers as well as develop independent research ideas; (ii) build a strong curriculum development, teaching and mentoring track record; and (iii) network with a wide range of industry partners interested in AI+X.

2. Postdoctoral Position 

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our dynamic research team focused to advance the understanding of compressible reactive flows. The successful candidate will work on direct and large-eddy simulations of compressible reactive flows and develop novel subgrid strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct direct and large eddy simulations of compressible reactive flows.
  • Develop numerical methods and subgrid models for high-fidelity computations.
  • Develop a research code infrastructure for testing methods and models.
  • Analyze simulation data using Python scripting.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students, providing guidance and support in their research.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in designing experiments, analyzing results, and disseminating findings through publications and presentations.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate findings into broader research efforts.

5. Postdoctoral Position 

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at Iowa State University seeks a Research Scientist II to manage the day-to-day operations in the geotechnical and materials engineering research and instructional fee-for-service laboratories and to coordinate activities at off-campus field locations as needed.

The Research Scientist II will be trained to manage a research laboratory operation with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, space, laboratory assets and project management. This position collaborates with others in and/or leads the development of technical specifications, design calculations, analytical methods selection and communications related to sampling, handling, testing and disposition of laboratory specimens and the integration of supporting laboratory test apparatus as required for projects.
