1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Quantum-AI Synergy for Next-Generation Imaging of Biological Tissues
Summary of PhD Program:
This project aims to pioneer a novel computational paradigm leveraging quantum computing architectures to enable advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven processing of imaging data for biological tissues. Contemporary digital processing of high-volume, high-dimensional image datasets—ranging from clinical imaging such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance to laboratory-scale techniques like highresolution X-ray tomography and hyperspectral imaging —faces substantial challenges in computational scalability, data integration, and real-time interpretability.
Application Deadline: 22 June 2025
2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Modelling high resolution spatial and temporal temperature variations in London
Summary of PhD Program:
Urbanised areas tend to have higher physiological equivalent temperature (PET) compared to the surrounding sub-urban and rural areas. The urban-rural air temperature difference is affected by various factors such as urban heat island (UHI), population density and aerodynamic roughness length. Overheating of the urbanised areas is a key risk for human health and productivity of the workers, given the increase in global temperature and urbanisation rate. The mitigation of urban overheating is increasingly recognised as a challenge in urban planning and climate mitigation.
Application Deadline: 15 June 2025

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in M34Impact
Summary of PhD Program:
Our vision is to expand our world-leading Multi-Disciplinary and Multi-Scale Modelling expertise in both reach and ability, to tackle major societal challenges affecting the environment, quality of life, safety, security, and the economy. This will be achieved through the amalgamation and expansion of two existing award-winning teams: the Centre for Safety, Resilience and Protective Security (CSRPS) and the Computational Science and Engineering Group (CSEG), creating the Multi-scale, Multi-disciplinary Modelling for Impact (M34Impact) platform. Both teams excel at developing and applying mathematical models, computational simulations and bespoke software to create digital worlds that predict physically accurate outcomes addressing a wide range of societal challenges.
Application Deadline: Open until filled
4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Air pollution and climate extremes risks to cassava productivity
Summary of PhD Program:
Elevated ozone(O3) and extreme high temperatures (EHT) pose significant threats to cassava productivity in Africa, a crucial crop for food security and agricultural economies. As climate warming intensifies, both O3 and EHT are expected to increase in frequency and severity. However, their combined impacts on cassava have yet to be thoroughly assessed through field experiments or rigorous regional/global assessments using numerical modelling tools. This project seeks to address these gaps by establishing a controlled greenhouse experiment at the NRI to simulate African climate conditions, evaluating cassava’s sensitivity to both O3 and the compounding effects of O3 and EHT.
