1. Funded PhD Position in Healthy Learning in a Digital Age: The Role of Educational Media in Early Development

Summary of PhD Position:

From the earliest months of life, children are surrounded by screens, sparking widespread concern about their potential harms. However, screen time is not uniform: while some content may be passive or distracting, other forms are carefully designed to engage infants and support learning. Yet surprisingly little research has tested whether infants experience educational media as socially engaging and whether they can effectively learn from it. This project addresses that gap by combining neuroscience, psychology, and educational technology to examine how infants respond to screen-based interactions and how parental co-use shapes these outcomes.

2. Funded PhD Position in on-device monitoring and adaptation design for embedded systems

Summary of PhD Position:

The PhD project aims to develop a novel adaptive embedded hardware system, which equipped with a low-level hardware monitoring system together with a multi-level intelligent algorithms and diagnostics capabilities for adaptation of embedded software and hardware during run-time. The proposed solution will not only be providing the ability to reliably operate the embedded systems in complex practical environment with cost-effective manner, but also accurately assess the behaviours of any given device, enabling the repurposing of devices with reduced capabilities for new tasks, therefore, it will enable a drastic reduction in the embodied carbon of IoT devices, and the circular economy, as our technology will allow devices to be repurposed repeatedly throughout their useful life.
