In particular, we will work on development of NMR methods to elucidate the structures and functions of biomolecules such as amyloid proteins, RNA, and nano-biomaterials, which are difficult to analyze using conventional structural biology methods. We also develop advanced NMR methods suited for ultra-high-field NMR magnets that are under development at RIKEN as part of a JST-MIRAI project. It is also within our scope to explore novel NMR applications and NMR analysis integrated with electron microscopy and other methods.

The Laboratory for Homeodynamics is recruiting a few Research Scientists, Postdoctoral researchers or Research Associates. The research overview of the laboratory is shown below. In our laboratory, we study how tissue homeostasis is regulated mainly using Drosophila. Recently we discovered how stem cells become dysregulated during aging (Sasaki et al. Nature Metabolism 2021). We also discovered how oncogenes simultaneously stimulate both cell death and cell proliferation (Nishida et al. eLife 2021). Most recently, we discovered a new cell death, which we named erebosis, in the fly gut (Ciesielski et al. Plos Biology 2022). We are looking for a few Research Scientists, Postdoctoral Researchers or Research Associates who are interested in pursuing this line of research.

The Laboratory for Vascular Morphogenesis is interested in understanding the fundamental morphogenetic principles of how endothelial cells behave and coordinate with each other and the perivascular environment to generate a well-patterned network of blood vessels. Using the zebrafish as a model system, we seek to understand how endothelial cell shape plasticity is regulated to drive vessel formation and remodelling. We also aim to understand endothelial cell mechanoresponse to haemodynamic forces in the control of vessel morphology and patterning. By unravelling the basic mechanisms of how endothelial cells build blood vessels of specific size and network pattern, we aim provide insights into how vascular malformations arise.
