Much research has been conducted about the technical sides of digitalization. However, in the practice, even the technical solutions are ready and mature, these pilot projects are still yet to receive a large-scale implementation due to legal and organizational considerations. Also, the interoperability of various systems remains a key challenge. This project is to identify the bottlenecks and solutions, and in sequence collaborate with the corresponding stakeholders to jointly establish a technical and governance framework for the selected use cases.

Apply now

The PhD candidate will be embedded in the productive, collegial, and engaged Information and Supply Chain Management (ISCM) Research Group at Tilburg University. The group consists of faculty, lecturers, postdoctoral fellows, and PhD candidates. The PhD candidate is also enrolled in the world-class CentER PhD Program, where they will take about 40 European credits of courses as part of working towards the PhD degree. For the candidate, a second advisor will be added to the research team. The second advisor will be selected jointly by the PhD candidate and Professor Fransoo within six months after start of enrollment.

Apply now

The PhD candidate will work on a project developing explainable algorithms for analyzing and modeling relevant data while at the same time reflecting on the potential implementation of the algorithms from an ethical, legal and societal perspective. The project will be led by dr. Roy Lindelauf (Netherlands Defense Academy), Dr. Tim Sweijs (The Hague Center for Strategic Studies & the War Studies Research Centre, Netherlands Defense Academy), and Dr. Marie Postma (Cognitive Science & Artificial Intelligence Department at Tilburg University). The project will combine ideas, methods and data from military science, artificial intelligence, data science, cognitive science, and philosophy. The intended focus of the project is cognitive warfare (pattern identification and network analysis in publicly available datasets) but there is a possibility to tailor the research to the expertise of the PhD candidate.

Apply now

The Cognitive Science & Artificial Intelligence department at Tilburg University invites applications for one fully-funded PhD position in the areas of robotics and deep learning, embedded within the AI for Robotics Lab. The AI for Robotics Lab (AIR-Lab) is a newly established research lab at Tilburg University, co-directed by Murat Kirtay and Giacomo Spigler. AIR-Lab research activities focus on recent advances in AI for robotics to endow robots with advanced cognitive capabilities and state-of-the-art performance.

Apply now

The Department of Human Resource Studies at Tilburg University is looking for a PhD student in the field of virtual teams and knowledge hiding. While knowledge hiding refers to intentional attempts to conceal requested knowledge, virtual teams are groups of people that collaborate through digital technology to achieve common goals, without being present face to face. The PhD student will be working under the supervision of Dr. Robin Bauwens (1st daily supervisor), Dr. Sasa Batistič (2nd daily supervisor), and Prof. Dr. Rob Poell (promotor).

Apply now

The PhD project will investigate why people pay taxes. Tax compliance and tax morale – the intrinsic motivation to pay taxes – receive increasing attention from scholars and tax administrations. Research has identified various economic and socio-psychological determinants of tax compliance, such as audit probability, fine levels, social norms, or fairness considerations. Importantly, empirical studies of tax compliance do not reveal consistent effects, neither of economic factors nor of socio-psychological factors. To better understand these puzzling findings, an overarching approach is needed to determine when these factors influence tax behavior and when their influence is suppressed.

1.
