27. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Why is aging the single greatest risk factor for dementia? What changes over time to render the brain increasingly vulnerable to proteins it has made throughout life? The Jankowsky lab seeks a Postdoctoral Associate to tackle this problem experimentally using controllable transgenic models for Alzheimer’s amyloidosis. We use genetic strategies to initiate the same neuropathology either early or late in life. Our goal is to compare how young and old glia respond to amyloid formation and whether the efficacy of therapeutic intervention differs in young and old brains. Researchers will work as part of a team combining mouse genetic engineering, viral circuit manipulation, neurohistology, and basic biochemistry to understand the causes of dementia and develop potential treatments.

29. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Jankowsky lab seeks a postdoctoral fellow to develop gene therapy for Alzheimer’s disease. We have identified peptide variants that prevent and reverse amyloid formation. By vectorizing these peptides for viral delivery into the brain, we reduce plaque pathology in mouse models of AD (Park et al., Mol. Ther., 2021, PMID 33647457). We now want to examine how dosing and route of delivery influence efficacy and define the neuroimmune response to viral gene transfer. Future studies will apply the same strategy against tau by identifying sequence variants which prevent aggregation and can be vectorized for viral delivery. Researchers will work as part of a team combining mouse genetic engineering, viral brain transduction, neurohistology, and basic biochemistry to understand Alzheimer’s path.

9. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in Dr. Xia Gao’s laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. We are interested in the interactions of nutrition, metabolism, and the development and treatment of metabolic diseases, such as obesity and cancer. Along with this powerful analytical tool, we use various in vivo mouse models and in vitro models to define the role of nutritional input and the underlying mechanisms in disease development and control. For instance, we have recently (Nature, 2019) employed metabolomics approaches to show that dietary methionine restriction is an effective and feasible dietary intervention in healthy humans and mice to alter circulating metabolism without overt side effect. Dietary methionine restriction has shown promising in various mouse cancer models alone or in combination with chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
