Many cities have formulated climate plans and goals where the concept of ‘justice’ is also emphasized as crucial to enabling a society with low carbon dioxide emissions and full-value living conditions and living environments for all residents. However, the fields of knowledge that have so far been developed around sustainable urban climate change have only to a limited extent included research and practice around urban justice.

The purpose of the research school Just Transitions is to build knowledge and competence around how a fair climate transition can be realized in a local context. Through the involvement of seven doctoral projects in municipal and regional processes, knowledge is developed about the prerequisites and abilities required for collaboration, management and governance towards a climate-just transition.

Summary of PhD Positions:

The ambition of this PhD project is to adapt and develop methods by exploiting the use of dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) assisted solid-state NMR spectroscopy. DNP-NMR allows for unique analysis of interfacial chemistry (of great advantage for heterogeneous materials) and radial depth distribution of chemical modification (in nano- to micrometer scale).

Highly relevant are methods determining atomistic information selectively of surface and of bulk part in modified cellulose well as the functionality distributions in the anhydroglucose unit. Moreover, methods should also provide possibility to acquire interactions between adjacent but different molecular structures in blended materials.
