1. Fully Funded PhD Position in immunophysiology

Summary of PhD Program:

The lining of the uterus (the endometrium) has completely unique properties as it heals quickly during each menstrual cycle without scarring. During the fertile period of a woman’s life, this scarless healing in the uterus occurs more than 400 times, but the involved mechanisms that control it are still not known. During this process, immune cells constitute up to 70% of all cells in the endometrium, but their contributing role to endometrial turnover is largely unknown. Based on our previous discoveries where we found that both neutrophils and macrophages, the body’s most common immune cells, are important for healing damaged tissue, we now want to investigate what they do in the uterine lining, with a special focus on different subpopulations of the innate immune system.
