Are you holding Master’s degree and looking for fully funded PhD positions? University of Melbourne, Australia invites online application for multiple funded PhD Programs / fully funded PhD positions in various research areas.

Candidates interested in fully funded PhD positions can check the details and may apply as soon as possible. Interested and eligible applicants may submit their online application for PhD programs via the University’s Online Application Portal.

1. Fully Funded PhD Position in machine learning

Summary of PhD Program:

The unprecedented expansion of wireline and wireless networks has resulted in a tremendous increase in energy consumption and left a significant environmental footprint. The use of low-resolution analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) has gained significant research interest because it addresses practical problems and scalability issues in 5G core technologies (including massive MIMO, mmWave communication, Internet-of-Things) such as massive data processing, high power consumption, and cost. This PhD project forms part of a cluster collaboration between the University of Toronto and the University of Melbourne titled Communication and Computation: Two sides of one tapestry.

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Invertebrate biodiversity

Summary of PhD Program:

Invertebrate biodiversity is essential in cities as they represent diverse roles in trophic interactions as they feed on vegetation, are fed upon by birds and other wildlife and are foundational for numerous ecosystem services including pollination and pest control. The liveability of urban environments for people is connected to these diverse and abundant ‘little creatures that run the world’. In this project, we will evaluate the contribution of different Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) to human thermal comfort, fine-scale microclimates and the diversity and adaptive response of invertebrates.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in microRNAs

Summary of PhD Program:

Drug resistance in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a major hurdle for successful therapy. MicroRNA (miRNA) are small RNA with critical roles in most cellular processes that can promote diverse diseases when disrupted. Aberrant miRNA expression has been implicated in the development and maintenance of AML, however little is known about the specific role and clinical utility for miRNA in AML chemoresistance.

4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Mg alloys

Summary of PhD Program:

This project aims to employ the density functional theory, machine learning interatomic potential, molecular dynamic simulations, and Monte Carlo simulations for the much-needed knowledge of how some typical solute atoms, such as Zn and Gd, affect the twin boundary structures and dynamics. Both joint PhD projects will provide new insight into the deformation twinning mechanism and lay the ground for a new alloy design approach for Mg alloys.

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Data-Driven Optimization

Summary of PhD Program:

This is one of two research projects studying unmanned aerial and surface vehicles (UAVs and USVs). The University of Melbourne is the home institution for this project. To view the SJTU-based partner project, click here. This project will fully exploit available sensor data to develop novel data-driven optimization-based techniques to achieve control and management goals optimally with the ability to handle constraints and uncertainties. With the consideration of practical implementation issues such as the computational cost, physical constraints from sensors and actuators, and limitation of communication ability, efficient online data-driven optimal collaborative control algorithms in the presence of constraints will be explored.

6. Fully Funded PhD Position in bone integration

Summary of PhD Program:

This PhD project will be based at the University of Melbourne with a 12-month stay at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. For the SJTU-based project, click here. Stress shielding is the main biomechanical factor leading to aseptic loosening of the femoral stem following total hip arthroplasty (THA). This project aims to design a femoral stem incorporating novel auxetic structures to expand the femoral stem while in tensile loading, thus to increase the load transferred to the femur and avoid stress shielding induced bone resorption and aseptic loosening of the implant.

7. Fully Funded PhD Position in machine learning

Summary of PhD Program:

This PhD project will be based at the University of Melbourne with a 12 month stay at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. High-fidelity simulations of turbulent flows and their application to aerospace systems are integral to gain a physical understanding of flow and noise. Computationally efficient noise predictions require two key elements: an affordable way to produce accurate mean flow information, and a reliable method to predict the corresponding frequency spectrum.

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in gene transfer

Summary of PhD Program:

A major cause of the accelerating antibiotic resistance crisis is the horizontal transfer of antibiotic resistance genes by the bacterial conjugation process. During conjugation, single-stranded DNA is transferred in a unidirectional manner from one bacterium to another by the action of the type IV secretion system (T4SS). The T4SS is an envelope-spanning nanomachine that is responsible for the assembly and retraction of a tubular filament, the F-pilus, that facilitates contact between bacteria.
