About Graduate Research Scholarships at La Trobe University Melbourne, Australia
Scholarships are available for PhD, Professional Doctorate and Masters by research degrees. Successful scholarship applicants will receive a stipend, tuition fee scholarship and allowances.

Successful applicants will need to commence between 1 February and 1 July 2023. We encourage Ukrainian citizens who have been displaced by the conflict and hold an Australian visa to apply for a La Trobe graduate research scholarship at any time.
Types of Scholarships
Research Training Program and La Trobe University Graduate Research scholarships
Research Training Program and La Trobe University Graduate Research scholarships are available for doctoral or masters research across all areas of research at La Trobe. Applications are open to Australian or NZ citizens, Australian permanent residents, and International applicants.
Project-based PhD scholarships
Apply for a scholarship to complete a PhD on a specific topic with one of our world-class research teams. Our project-based scholarships page contains details of the available projects across a diverse range of research areas. Project commencement dates and eligibility requirements, where applicable, are noted under each project.
Dennis McDermott Research scholarships
The Dennis McDermott Research scholarships are awarded to Indigenous students of exceptional research promise to undertake a graduate research degree at La Trobe University, and include an additional top-up stipend and research support allowance on top of a standard Research Training Program scholarship.
You must be an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident and of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander origin to apply.
Stipend value: $42,500 per annum (full-time).
Flexible Research Scholarships
Flexible Research Scholarships are available to eligible applicants with disabilities. These scholarships will provide individually tailored support providing a longer period of time for completion of a graduate research degree and payment of a stipend, extended periods of leave of absence, and provide access to additional funding for research related costs associated with having a disability.
FLEX scholarships are awarded in conjunction with a Research Training Program or La Trobe University Graduate Research scholarships and will include a stipend and tuition fee scholarship which comes into effect once that scholarship has come to an end.
Pathways transfer from Honours to Masters by research scholarships
Current arts and science Honours students at La Trobe can apply to transfer into the second year of the Master of Arts or Masters of Science research degrees. Dedicated pathways scholarships are available to both domestic and international applicants. Applications close 16 September – apply now!
Medicinal Agriculture PhD scholarships
La Trobe is offering several Medicinal Agriculture scholarships through the ARC Research Hub for Medicinal Agriculture for PhD candidates to undertake research aimed at improving the profitability and sustainability of medicinal agriculture for primary producers and adding value for pharmaceutical manufacturers and end users.

La Trobe University – Sheffield Hallam University Joint PhD program scholarships
La Trobe University is offering PhD scholarships to undertake a joint PhD with Sheffield Hallam University, UK, in the areas of sport, food, health and wellbeing.
Candidates in the joint program will benefit from the research community, networking and collaborations of the SHU/LTU global strategic partnership and will spend one year of study in the UK.
