About Fully Funded PhD in Neuroscience
The Neuroscience Graduate Group, one of the premier training programs in the United States, offers a comprehensive program of courses and outstanding research opportunities leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, and it participates in joint Physician and Veterinary Scientist Training Programs.
The group is composed of over 80 faculty members drawn from 20 departments, divisions and sections, including the School of Medicine, the School of Veterinary Medicine, the College of Biological Sciences, the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences and the College of Letters and Sciences.
The campus-wide nature of the group provides the program with exceptional diversity and accommodates students with a broad spectrum of interests, including interdisciplinary approaches. This diversity is reflected in the areas of specialization within the graduate group.
These include the general areas of molecular, cellular, developmental, systems, behavioral, computational, cognitive, and neurological approaches to neuroscience.Upon admission, students are assigned a graduate advisor who guides them through the program’s formal requirements.
The student also chooses a major professor who serves as mentor and under whose supervision the dissertation research is conducted.
Normally, a student pursuing a Ph.D. degree completes course and teaching requirements during the first two years of the program, passes both preliminary and qualifying examinations and then conducts the dissertation research under the direction of the major professor.
Fully Funded Financial Support
The UC Davis Neuroscience Graduate Group provides financial support, fees and tuition for all first year students who are admitted to the program and then guarantees funding for every student who continues to make satisfactory progress.
The funds come from several sources including federal training grants, federal research grants to the faculty, University fellowships and scholarships, and teaching assistantships.
The program is currently funded, in part, by an NIH Training Grant in Basic Neuroscience. Ph.D. students in the Neuroscience Graduate Group are paid a stipend that is competitive with other comparable programs in the nation.
Current stipend (for living expenses) is ~$33,902.00 per year.
PhD Application Requirements
1. The Neuroscience Graduate Group no longer requires the GRE for admissions.
2. The application fee may be paid by credit card. The appropriate fee must be paid before the application will be considered complete, and a fee must be paid for each application submitted.
3. 3 Letters of Recommendation must be submitted electronically through the online application. Do not have recommenders send letters in hard copy, but rather to submit all recommendations online once the online service is available.
4. UC Davis requires academic records from each college-level institution you have attended. You will be instructed to upload scanned copies of your transcripts after you have submitted your online application.
5. TOEFL or IELTS scores are required for international students.

7. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
