Two new Global Scholarships have been introduced, enabling eligible candidates from anywhere in the world to apply, provided they receive a nomination. The Rhodes Global Scholarship seeks exceptional young leaders who are driven to address global challenges and promote international understanding and peace.
Eligibility
You can only apply for the Global Scholarships if you are ineligible to apply through any existing Rhodes constituency. If you have a strong connection to one or more Rhodes constituencies but don’t meet their eligibility criteria, consider inter-jurisdictional consideration instead of the Global Scholarship.
i. You must be between 18 and 23 years old on October 1, 2023 (born after October 1, 1999, and before October 2, 2005).
OR (for older candidates who completed their first undergraduate degree later than usual)
ii. You must be under 27 years old on October 1, 2023 (born after October 1, 1996), and you must have completed your first undergraduate degree on or after October 1, 2022.
By July 2024, you must have already completed or will complete an undergraduate degree (typically a Bachelor’s degree) with academic qualifications and grades that, at a minimum, meet or surpass the specific entry requirements for your chosen full-time course at the University of Oxford. Given the intense global competition for admission to the University of Oxford, candidates with a First Class Honours Degree or equivalent, or a GPA of 3.70/4.0 or higher, will have a better chance of successful admission.
You must possess a sufficiently high level of English proficiency to meet the University of Oxford’s English language requirements at the Higher Level.
If your initial application for the Rhodes Scholarships is unsuccessful, you may reapply only once more, and it must be in the same constituency, provided you meet the eligibility criteria.
Scholarship value
A Rhodes Scholarship covers all University and College fees, a living stipend (£18,180 per annum for 2022-23), a settling-in allowance, health insurance, a visa, and two economy class flights to and from the UK at the start and end of the Oxford studies.
The scholarship’s standard duration is two years, contingent upon satisfactory academic performance and personal conduct.
Application instructions
You should apply for the Rhodes Scholarship before applying for your intended course at the University of Oxford. Candidates selected for the Rhodes Scholarship will then need to apply for their chosen course using the University of Oxford’s graduate application form, with support from the Rhodes House team. There is no application fee for submitting the Rhodes Scholarship application form, but it must be submitted online, as no other form of application is accepted.
