Fully Funded PhD in School Psychology at University of Northern Colorado

The Psychology doctoral program at the University of Northern Colorado aims to train health service providers specializing in school psychology. These professionals are equipped to apply psychological and educational principles to enhance the psychosocial well-being of children (ages birth-21) and their families, both in research and practice.

Students in the Ph.D. program first complete a master’s in Foundations of Professional Psychology on their way to earning a Ph.D. Graduates of this program are eligible for licensure as psychologists and school psychologists through the state licensure board and Department of Education, respectively. Furthermore, they may also pursue careers as university professors, educational evaluators, private consultants, and therapists.

PhD Program Requirements

You must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in psychology or a closely related field. While psychology is preferred, candidates with degrees in fields such as social sciences, behavioral sciences, or neuroscience may also be considered.

A master’s degree is not required for admission to the PhD program; however, candidates with a master’s degree in psychology or a related field may have a competitive advantage in the admissions process. Typically, applicants are expected to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

PhD Funding Coverage

3. Scholarships and Fellowships: The university provides a range of scholarships and fellowships that are merit-based or specific to certain areas of research. These awards can significantly reduce the financial burden on students.

4. Work-Study Opportunities: Students may also explore work-study opportunities on or off-campus, allowing them to gain valuable work experience while earning a paycheck.

Application Requirement

1. Online Application: All applicants must complete the online application through UNC’s Graduate School portal.

2. Transcripts: Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be submitted. These transcripts should demonstrate that you meet the GPA requirements.

It is expected that most applicants will not provide GRE scores, but they are optional for those who feel that GRE scores will strengthen their application credentials. It is in no way required; applications without GRE scores will receive full review without disadvantage.

6. English proficiency scores: International applicants are required to demonstrate English language proficiency by one of the following
