PhD Program Requirements
The MSTP at Duke University seeks highly qualified individuals who are passionate about bridging the gap between medicine and research. To be considered for admission, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Academic Excellence: Prospective students should possess a strong academic record, with a demonstrated aptitude in both the biological sciences and research.
Bachelor’s Degree: Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. While there is no specific major requirement, a background in the natural sciences is advantageous.
MCAT/GRE Scores: Standardized test scores, such as the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), are required. Competitive scores are essential.

PhD Funding Coverage
Duke University is committed to ensuring that financial barriers do not deter talented students from pursuing the MD-PhD program. All students admitted to the MSTP program receive a comprehensive fellowship award, which covers the following:
Tuition: The program covers all tuition expenses, ensuring that you can focus on your education and research.
Fees: Additional fees associated with your studies are also fully funded by the MSTP.
Health Insurance: Students receive comprehensive health insurance coverage for the duration of their program.
Stipend: The stipend is $30,200 for eleven months. This stipend helps cover living expenses and allows you to focus on your studies and research.
Application Requirement
Prospective students must prepare a comprehensive application package that includes the following components:
Online Application: All applicants must submit an online application through the Duke University School of Medicine’s admissions portal.
Transcripts: Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended must be submitted.
