The University of Bristol, in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts, is delighted to offer a range of PhD Scholarships to individuals showcasing outstanding research potential. These scholarships are available for up to four years for full-time students or eight years for part-time students, contingent upon satisfactory progress in their research projects.
The Faculty of Arts proudly presents five distinct scholarships to cater to a variety of passions and backgrounds:
- Research Scholarship
- Research Scholarship for UK-domiciled, Home Fee Status Applicants of Black and Mixed-Black Heritage
- Co-tutelle Scholarship with Macquarie University, Australia
- Co-tutelle Scholarship with Université Toulouse – Jean Jaurès, France
- Research Scholarship in Association with University of Cape Town, South Africa
Financial Support
Full-time PhD Scholarships cover tuition fees and provide a maintenance grant (stipend) in line with UKRI fees. The stipend rates for 2024-25 are a minimum of £18,622 for four years (full-time) or eight years pro rata (part-time), depending on satisfactory progress. Additionally, each student receives £2000 per annum for associated research costs. Please note that this funding is exclusively for new students starting in September 2024.
Type of Scholarship
1. Research Scholarship: Aligned with Bristol’s research challenge areas focusing on Social Justice, Culture and Creativity, or Climate and Environment.
2. Research Scholarship for UK-domiciled, Home Fee Status Applicants of Black and Mixed-Black Heritage: Open to proposals across various study areas within the Faculty of Arts.
3. Co-tutelle Scholarship with Macquarie University, Australia: A unique global opportunity to split your PhD studies between Bristol and Macquarie, fostering international collaboration.
4. Co-tutelle Scholarship with Université Toulouse – Jean Jaurès: Applicants can apply for a University of Bristol PGR Scholarship, emphasizing research alignment with Bristol’s challenge areas.
5. Research Scholarship in Association with University of Cape Town, South Africa: Fostering research collaboration between the University of Bristol and the University of Cape Town.
Eligibility
To be eligible for any of these scholarships, candidates must meet standard admissions requirements, demonstrate promise for doctoral study, and have received an offer of study.
